As Apple prepares to unveil their new corporate headquarters this fall in Cupertino, we’ve been scouring the Internet for photos/videos of what their new space will look like. And while the company is keeping design plans private, they have given some insight into what designers focused on while creating the new digs … and believe it or not, movement was the driving principal behind many of the company’s choices. From Inc.com, “Whether it’s the quarter-mile hike to the office from the parking lot or climbing any of the four flights of stairs in the elevator-less “Infinite Loop” – employees will be in perpetual motion. Apple is also providing nearly 2,000 custom bikes on the campus to encourage movement.”
This got us thinking about how important movement is during the work day. Hopping up to refill a water bottle, or stepping outside for a few minutes helps re-focus your eyes, clear your head, and increases blood flow. We know that it can be challenging to break away, especially when you’re an entrepreneur and your business relies on you … so we found a great solution!
A growing number of studies suggest using this ratio to help get out of your chair during the work day. Sit for twenty minutes, then stand for eight minutes, and then move around for two minutes. This means that you’ll be standing up and sitting down 32 times during the work day, which has incredible benefits in itself to your blood pressure, muscles and bones.
