Recent years have seen a trend towards health consciousness, fitness and diet crazes, and people striving to lead healthier lifestyles overall. There are a lot of ways you can maintain a healthy lifestyle, whether it be in or out of the office:
- Keep healthy snacks in your office – while it’s easy and satisfying to eat sugary snacks during the workday, it’s just as easy to keep fruit and cut up vegetables in your workplace.
- Hydrate! Especially on those hot summer days. Aim to drink 8 glasses of water each day. If you exercise (especially during those summer months), add a glass or two for good measure.
- Exercise regularly – it can be as simple as taking a walk outside on a nice day or joining an office or local health club. There are even a lot of muscular exercises you can do while sitting or standing at your desk
- Get enough sleep. Start your day alert and refreshed!
- Limit computer/screen time outside of working hours. It’s so enticing to go home after a day at the office and binge watch some shows, but try to get some physical activity in first.
- Get outside – walk, bike, run, garden, wash your car…take advantage of those sunny days and warm summer nights
- Eat a healthy, well-balanced diet
- Take breaks to stand every 30 minutes while at your desk
- Practice meditation, mindfulness, or yoga
- Listen to music and tap into its calming effects
- Make “me time” – explore hobbies and interests outside of the workplace
Even if you just accomplish a few of these suggestions, you are off to a good start!
