I remember not being familiar with the term “Virtual Office” the first time I heard it. However, it’s become increasingly popular over the last 10-15 years as jobs and the work environment change. A virtual office allows a business to have a “home” base and the use of a mailing address for business purposes without having a physical office assigned to them. Many of the centers who offer virtual offices, also offer additional services such as a phone number and call answering, access to rent an office for a couple hours or for a day and even access to a conference room as needed.
So, is a virtual office right for you?
- Do you need an address visible to the public? A virtual office may be a good fit for you so that you don’t have to post/share your home address.
- Do you need access to an office to meet with clients from time to time? A virtual office typically provides access to an office at a discounted rate.
- Is your company looking to expand into a new territory but doesn’t want to invest too much too early? A virtual office is a great option as they can add another city or location to their website and portfolio, without a huge investment while also having access to an office or conference room as needed (see #2).
- Do you need flexibility as your business develops and grows? A virtual office is a great option, especially for a small business or a business in transition who has a short-term need for a professional address, whether that’s due to downsizing, growth or relocation.
